About this Chic Retreat

Herdade de Vale do Manantio, a small boutique hotel in the region of Alentejo offers guests a warm and authentic experience making this country estate a closely guarded secret by all those who stay here.  As you would expect the interiors are charming, filled with warm colours, antiques and hunting trophies, creating a true hacienda style.  The house dates back to the 19th-century and enjoys expansive views across the estate. 

Guests will love the relaxed and informal feel of the house making themselves at home within minutes of arriving.  There is plenty of space inside, outside in the gardens and on the porch which features the traditional open-air fire place.

Accommodation

All of the charming and atmospheric rooms, some of which have their own fireplace, are all positioned to allow you to enjoy the views across the expansive lands of the Alentejo.  It is difficult to choose between the rooms as no one room is better than the other but our favourite twin room is the Fireplace Roome, light and airy it has direct access to the garden and as the name suggests its own fireplace. 

Activities

Six generations have followed the tradition of hunting on the estate.  Herdade de Vale do Manantio offer tailor made partridge shooting weekends from the beginning of October through to the end of December.  The traditional customs are still in place today and are enjoyed by everybody who is privileged enough to enjoy the experience.  The estate is in a lake region so there is plenty of water sports to choose from for those looking to burn off some of the excellent dishes. Horse Riding is an exhilarating experience across the Alentejo landscape and it is a rare privilege to find a small boutique hotel with a choice of horses for guests to enjoy.

Tours of the local historical sites can be arranged or if you prefer simply enjoy the oasis of peace and quiet, curl up on the porch and read a book or enjoy a snooze by the swimming pool.  Or for some me myself time, why not enjoy a steam bath followed by some time in the Jacuzzi. 

Dining

Breakfast is a gourmet affair with a wonderful selection of home made jams, local cheeses, hams and traditional curds.  For those with a sweet tooth there are also some tempting home made cakes and biscuits.  Breakfast is served in the dining room of the Main House or on the expansive porch until midday allowing guests to enjoy a leisurely morning. During cooler evenings guests can enjoy an aperitif by the open fire on the porch.  Vale do Manantio prepares mouth-watering regional dishes using family recipes that have been passed through the generations.  The undiscovered and unspoilt regional wines are an excellent accompaniment.

Do enjoy the "Out of Africa BBQ picnic" which is arranged at lunchtime with panoramic views of the typical Alentejo landscape.

Rates

Rates are per room per night including breakfast.  An extra bed in the rooms is 25 € for children under 12 and 40 € for children older than 12 years old.
