15 Grand Rue is a beautifully restored manor house in the medieval village of Caux, Languedoc. This boutique B&B has just 3 suites, all tastefully furnished with an array of French antiques and contemporary luxuries in keeping with the elegant ambience. The hostess, Abigail, knows the area well and is always ready to offer advice so guests can make the most of the great location. Indulge in the generous breakfast before exploring the Languedoc with its beaches, vineyards and rolling hills, and this chic retreat is just 5 minutes from Pézenas. 15 Grand Rue also offer exclusive rental of the entire house.

Accommodation

There are 3 spacious suites to choose from at 15 Grand Rue, each with a double bedroom, living room and bathroom. The wonderfully restored lounges have a wealth of vintage French furniture & fine fabrics and a charming style. From large trunk tables to black marble fireplaces and original painted ceilings, all has been designed with a keen eye for detail and the result is homely elegance. Suite 1, on the ground-floor, was formally the library and has many original features including terrazzo floors, complimented by the more contemporary reupholstered zebra-print chairs. The first-floor Suite 2 has a private balcony that looks out to the courtyard where a leisurely breakfast can be taken at the parasol table, while Suite 3 has a Juliette balcony overlooking the garden.

The bedrooms are also furnished with chic French antiques: Suite 2 has a split-cane bed and Suite 1 houses a rare 18th-century Provencal armoire. Beds are luxuriously dressed with hand-embroidered covers, silk blankets and plump down pillows. All living rooms have large flat screen TVs with satellite, tea, Krupps coffee machine, complimentary WiFi and a complimentary mini-bar with wine, soft drinks & snacks. The en-suite bathrooms have walk-in rain showers, heated towel rails, bathrobes, slippers and L'Occitane bath products and Suite 3 has a particularly fetching hand-painted commode & mirror. A new junior suite is to be renovated over winter.

Activities

15 Grand Rue has a cosy courtyard garden where guests can sit back and sample some of the regions finest wines, and connoisseurs may wish to visit the vineyards of Languedoc. Explore the old quarter of Caux with its historic church and distinctive 14th-century tower which rises above the village. There is a market every Friday and it is easy to find out what is going on as this village has a public announcement system, all of which start with a cheery "'allo 'allo"! Cycling is a good way to explore the surrounding region with its fields of poppies and rolling hills or take a casual stroll before returning to town to sample local wines from one of the caves.

Pézenas, with its multitude of antiques shops and cobbled streets, is just 5 minutes from Caux. The coast is a half-hour drive away and guests can take their pick from beach clubs to undeveloped sandy stretches. Adventurers can head up to the Haute Languedoc and go kayaking, white-water rafting or climbing and there are some great golf courses near Montpellier and Lamalou. In fact there is something for everyone in this region, including a wealth of arts & crafts for souvenir hunters.

Dining

The 15 Grand Rue breakfast is ample, with patisserie straight from the oven, fresh fruit, juices, coffee and tisanes, and an ever-changing special from scrambled eggs with smoked salmon to fresh fruit smoothies or a full English. Guests can take breakfast in the dining room, out in the garden, or in-room. For dinner, they offer a Table D'Hôtes a few times a week, from a barbeque buffet to a 4-course meal with canapés and they will pack up a picnic hamper for a day on the beach. Pézenas has some highly recommended restaurants and take a trip to the coast for some great seafood.

Rates

Rates at 15 Grand Rue are per room per night and include all taxes and breakfast. An extra single bed can be arranged in suites 2 & 3 at EUR 25 per night including breakfast. Children under 12 are generally not accepted.

Less than 30 days prior to arrival, 50% of the total stay will be charged. Less than 15 days prior to arrival, 100% will be charged. Early departure will be considered as a cancellation and all nights booked will be charged unless resold.
