Le Caillau - The Lot, France

About this Chic Retreat

It was love at first sight for Chas, Caroline and two daughters Evie and Lilah when they visited Le Caillau in September 2008.  This was a 300 year old winery, set at the heart of the Cahors vines in The Lot, they simply couldn't leave behind! Now, after recent renovation (an ongoing labour of love) Le Caillau Café Atelier is new, a place where you can go and eat, drink and get creative and the recently completed 2-bed apartment means you can stay there in boutiqe hotel style too. The kitchen is fully-fitted with all modern appliances and a wood burning stove for cold winter nights and Chas and Caroline provide fantastic welcome packs for adults and kids - including oil and sugar as well as cheeses, ham, milk etc. they also provide their own mouth-watering Le Caillau chutney and of course Le Caillau wine and fruit & veg from the garden.  Kids won't be disapointed as they get crayons, paints, glue, paper, scrapbook etc

Accommodation

The 2 bedroom, self-catering apartment at Le Caillau is surrounded by the Cahors vineyards and makes the perfect week-long holiday base during the summer months and the ideal short break during the cooler months. The highest quality fixtures, fittings, bedlinens and materials have been used throughout including wood floors in the bedrooms, Italian stone tiles in the kitchen, dining area, living room and bathroom.  The large bathroom has a walk-in shower as well as a bath and separate loo and L'Occitane products.  The fully fitted modern kitchen includes the essential dishwasher and microwave and a wood burning oven.  Enjoy the terrace during the summer months or cosy up and enjoy supper in front of the fire during the cooler evenings. The living room has a TV, DVD player and HiFi.  The apartment is ideal for a family of four with the large bedroom with private terrace on the ground floor and and the smaller bedroom upstairs.

Activities

Creativity is the name of the game at Le Caillau and they have a great range of pottery items to paint as well as colouring, cutting and sticking activities.   Le Caillau is surrounded by some of the best Cahors vines – Clos la Coutale, Chateau de Gaudou, Clos Triguedina and is near to the medieval town of Puy l’Eveque.  The local area can be explored by bike or walking or you may want to just stay put and enjoy the sunshine, food and wine.  In the Atelier you can try your hand at pottery painting and crafts throughout the year.

Dining

Foodies will absolutely love Le Caillau.  Enjoy fresh coffee and tea, served with delicious homemade cakes, lunch in the restaurant serving fresh seasonal food or simply a snack with a refreshing beer. The menu is original and is always focused around using the finest local ingredients, seasonal and organic where possible with the emphasis on a different mix of tastes and influences from all over the world. Try the exquisite cauliflower and cumin fritters a bowl of the most delicious handcut chips.  Chas and Caroline are happy to do early meals for kids if required and can provide a babysitting service.
