Ksar Char Bagh - Marrakech, Morocco

About this Chic Retreat

Located 6 km from the old city the stunning and exclusive Ksar Char-Bagh is ideally located for those who want to escape in luxury and for those who want to explore. The Ksar (palace) and its village lie hidden in the palm groves (the Palmeraie) surrounded by the snow-capped peaks of the Atlas Mountains and Chmilat foothills. The tower of the palace rises from the sand like a dream glimpsed through the palm trees. The earth tones of the facades hide the sumptuous interiors which effortlessly mix sophistication and simplicity resulting in a style of understated luxury.

The design of Ksar Char Bagh and its gardens follow traditional Persian architecture with running water everywhere you go symbolising the 'rivers of paradise' this is the meaning of Char-Bagh - the fundamental link between water and life.

Accommodation

There are 12 spacious Harim Suites (Harim means small apartment in a private palace) at this magnificent boutique hotel, all traditionally decorated, each one unique from the other, offering space to relax in whether in the sun or in the shade. Each luxurious suite has a living room with fireplace, bedroom, dressing room, en-suite bathroom, shower, air-conditioning, heating, king-size bed, mini-bar, TV, DC and DVD player. The bathrooms are huge and luxurious with sunken marble baths, double marble sinks, huge showers, large towels and wonderful products made locally. The terraces are large and all beautifully private some with breathtaking 360 degree views including the Atlas Mountains.

Activities

Guests can choose to swim in one of 2 swimming pools the one at the top of the tower boasting breathtaking, panoramic views or the one in the garden. There is a traditional hammam in the vaulted cellars of the palace which can be followed by a soothing massage in front of the fire in your suite. Guests can pick fruit from the orchard and vegetables from the garden on their way to the Bûstan (perfumed garden of the senses), invigorating their senses. Beds upon beds of fragrant mint surround the peach, olive, apple and pear trees which is picked daily to create the famous Moroccan mint tea.

There is a garden room on the ground floor or a large tented terrace on the first floor with sofas and dining area. Golf, tennis and riding are all within 10 minutes of the hotel. 2008 saw the addition of a collection of boutiques at the end of the garden in some traditional, renovated outbuildings. The shops sell jewellry, clothes, babouches, ceramics and many other locally made Moroccan items.

Dining

The exquisite food is produced fresh from the garden on a daily basis by a top French Chef and his team, whilst the wines are carefully selected by the Maitre Sommelier. Possibly the best food in Marrakech.
