About this Chic Retreat
Owner Nick Buckingham has done what many of us dream of, but are too afraid to do. Change direction. Such was his love of Sri Lanka he adopted it as his country in 2002 and hasn't looked back since. Located in southern Sri Lanka his boutique hotel Buckingham Place puts the local village of Rekawa firmly on the ‘must visit’ list for those who may not be staying at Buckingham Place but just passing through or visiting the area. Off the beaten track in a sleepy, unknown place, Nick has created an oasis where guests can kick off their shoes and forget the rest of the world.
Accommodation
The 11 rooms and suites at Buckingham Place each have air-conditioning and a pretty view across Rekawa's Lagoon from the balcony, just moments from the long stretch of deserted Indian Ocean beach.
Activities
All activities at Buckingham Place can be arranged within a day or two so don't worry about pre-booking. There are many on offer including visits to Heritage sites, whale watching, visiting an elephant sanctuary, exploring tea estates and day safaris at the National Parks. Alternatively you can explore the surrounding area by canoe and bicycle or take a stroll or an early morning jog along the beach. There is currently a plunge pool for guests to use whilst the larger pool is being built, but being so close to such a beautiful beach you will find yourself spending a lot of time by the sea, enjoying the sea breeze.
Dining
The open-air restaurant at this gem is an absolute treat. Serving Sri Lankan and international/fusion dishes, foodies, including vegetarians, will delight at the flavours and freshness of the mouth-watering menu. A new, sea-facing restaurant is due to open in 2011.
Rates
Rates at Buckingham Place are per room per night and include a la carte breakfast plus all local/government taxes. Also included: Use of local mobile phone when 'out and about', use of canoes on the lagoon (subject to availability). Christmas Day (Dec 25th) & New Year’s Eve ( 31st) supplement of USD95 per person per day includes ALL festive meals, snacks and „House‟ cocktails on each of these days. Wine and all other beverages are charged at normal rates.

Cancellation policy
- 100% of all monies received if cancellation is 90 days or more in advance of reservation commencement date.
- 80% of all monies received where cancellation is between 45 and 90 days in advance of commencement date.
- 60% of all monies received where cancellation is between 21 days and 45 days in advance of commencement date.
- 25% of all monies received where cancellation is between 7 days and 21 days in advance of commencement date.
