About this Chic Retreat

Situated in the heart of Tuscany in one of Italy's best wine making regions Conti di San Bonifacio is a family run boutique hotel and winery with just 5 rooms.  Here the focus is on the holistic experience; luxurious rooms, breathtaking countryside and tranquil surroundings.  The aroma of the vineyards pervades the estate and reminds you at every turn that you are in an area famous for producing some delicious and fragrant wines notably Nobile di Montepulciano and Brunello di Montalcino.  

Accommodation

Conti di San Bonifacio offers guests a choice of 5 rooms and suites from small to large with a price range to match. Most of these white washed rooms enjoy views across the estate's vineyards or olive groves.  The owners have cleverly combined linen and leather together in the rooms using a soft palette of neutral colours, as well as wood and stone resulting in a warm and inviting atmosphere.  We love that they all have underfloor heating.  Room 1 is the largest room with an abundance of light featuring a four poster bed and wonderfully large en-suite bathroom. For a smaller budget and a smaller room but lots of charm, book Room 3 - it also has a lovely en-suite bathroom complete with a free-standing roll top bath. Rooms 4 and 5 can be connected and open directly onto the garden making them perfect for families of four.

Activities

As you are staying at a winery and in one of Italy's best wine regions book a private tasting in one of the neighbouring Chianti Estates or savour some of Lulu's favourite wines in Montalcino, not far away.  You can also turn your hand to learning how to make traditional Tuscan food.  Lulu has visited Castiglione della Pescaia beach which is around 30 minutes from this boutique hotel and where you can pay for a couple of sun loungers and an umbrella for the day on the beach - well worth the price.   There is also a great wine shop called Enoteca Castiglionese which is a real Aladdin's cave selling some fantastic regional wines and reasonable prices (they ship abroad too).  Bicycles are available for hire from the hotel - and horse riding can be arranged.  

Dining

The restaurant at Conti di Bonifacio serves traditional Tuscan dishes (the menu changes daily) including cinghiale alla cacciatora (hunters wild boar stew) and delicious ricotta and spinach pasta dishes. In the evening the tables are candlelit and with the beautiful table linen the setting is very romantic. Although there is no bar guests are encouraged to help themselves to the wine from the estate at any of the tasting tables.  If visiting Castiglione della Pescaia beach try and have lunch at Skipper - it is right on the beach and serves fantastic seafood salads, bruschette and daily specials all very reasonably priced and delicious!
